Marino Vago at the first Gest event.

It was also the president of Sistema Moda Italia , Marino Vago , who christened the first completely Made in Italy cotton crop.
The novelty comes from Puglia , from the Capitanata plain, in Agro San Severo, thanks to the initiative and initiative of two young entrepreneurs, Pietro Gentile and Michele Steduto , who in May decided to sow an area of three hectares of cotton , adopting advanced organic farming systems for cultivation, with a drip irrigation system, which allows for water savings of 75% compared to traditional crops.
The first experimental harvest brought about 150 quintals of top quality cotton and launched a broader project of creating a possibly zero kilometer supply chain for the production of shirting fabric, to be used for the Gest brand owned by the two young entrepreneurs. The goal is to be able to develop a completely Italian cluster dedicated to the cultivation of cotton on the Italian territory.
“This first harvest – Vago said – paves the way for new prospects for a truly sustainable and completely Italian textile supply chain, even in those early stages that no longer belong to us since the first half of the last century. The future of our textile will have the possibility of expressing increasingly innovative potential in all production steps, thus allowing for an excellent product and safe traceability".
